Chicago- 292

3 killed on Thursday. In the Little Village neighborhood on the west side, a 17 year old male was fatally shot while standing outside close to 2am when someone stepped out of a SUV and opened fired.

There were 282 murders and 1,148 shooting incidents as of 6/19, compared to 316 murders and 1,381 shooting incidents same time in 2021, which makes a 11% and 17% decrease, respectively.

DC competing with Baltimore to become the murder capital of the region again? That haven't happen since 1980s or so IIRC.

Chicago is also high for its standard but somehow it is a decrease this year? How bad was 2021 lol.

And NOLA...just damn...

PS What is Houston at right now? Seems to be another bad year ongoing having similar number to last year, which was a deadly year.

No, Baltimore's rate is somewhere in the mid 60's to mid 70's. The police department doesn't keep track of homicides by a gun. At the very least it's 61 assuming only 25% of homicides were by firearm.

I didn't realized it's "Shooting Rate" not homicide rate (per 100k).

This may help you for Baltimore:

https://homicides.news.baltimoresun....cause=shooting

149/170 are homicide by firearm, and 10 are unknown but you can almost be certain that 8/10 are probably also homicide by firearm.

(I believe Baltimore is up to 171 as of this morning but that database haven't been updated yet).

Last update from a few days ago showed Houston with a slight lead over last year, which is an improvement compared to earlier this year when it had a huge jump.

Atlanta closed the gap as well, earlier this year it was like a 50% increase and now it's around 13. Of course any increase is bad news.

I can't remember what 2020 was like in Chicago and how 2021 compared (I know it was an increase but not sure by how much). I'm sure even with the decrease this year it's still a lot higher than the pre-pandemic years.

Thank you.Baltimore surpassed New Orleans with a whopping rate of 82.

I wish I could find data on Memphis, Cleveland, Detroit and St Louis, but it seems they only collect that information annually if at all.

Found the data for Chicago:

https://www.chicagotribune.com/news/...joy-story.html

2020 was bad...as was 2021 with numbers close to 800 after averaging around 500 from 2005-2015 or so, with a huge jump in 2016 then things calmed somewhat.

That homicide map is just...sad. All the talk about increased in craziness in downtown/River North while a large majority of homicide are still in West Side and South Side.

I was gonna say its shooting rate but you caught that already. DC was murder capital for most of the 90s and last in 2003 not 1980. Prior to 2003 Baltimore only had a higher murder rate than DC 3 times in 30 years going back to the 70s.

Yep, Baltimore's overall shooting rate is so high due to it's out of whack homicide rate. As of 6/24

~340 people have been non-fatally shot in Baltimore vs. 171 homicides or a 3:1 ratio.

Philly for comparison has had ~1,100 non-fatal shootings vs. 245 homicides or a roughly 4:1 ratio
