So can we get a list of which cities are doing worst and better this year? Defintely seem like DC, Minneapolis, and Milwaukee are trying to hit records.

DC rates comparable to the early 2000s def not a record year.. I believe Atlanta, New Orleans, Milwaukee, LA, Philly, DC, Baltimore, Albuquerque are all up from last year.

Birmingham is going crazy too

"93 homicides have been reported in the city as of August 12, putting the city on pace for 152 for the year. Based on the 2021 census estimate of 197,575 population, that represents a homicide rate of 76.9 homicides per 100,000 residents. Birmingham had 141 homicides in 2021. The recent record low of 62 homicides was set in 2014, and the recent record high was 148 in 1992. At this point in 2021, 79 homicides had been reported."

Yes, DC's record was ~479, set in 1991. Nowhere near that, but still the highest in ~20 years. There are several other cities up from last year too. Dallas and Houston come to mind, and several cities sitting right at their 2021 totals, which were the highest in many years (shootings too).
Sad to see this in so many great cities.

Memphis is 4% down so far from last year's 346 homicides. Roughly 1 homicide per day in Memphis.
