Looks like the freezing temps didn't slow things down in Atlanta as there was a fatal shooting in West End last night. We're probably well in the 160's now as we've already surpassed last year's total.

Homicides are now occurring all over the far Northwest Side in locations that 20 years ago were pretty much unthinkable and rarely experienced murders. For example, overnight there was a double homicide at Appleton Ave. and Congress St. in a what was, not so long ago, a thriving middle class neighborhood developed in the 1950s and 1960s.
I have lived in Milwaukee for 31 years and I will call this an accurate description. I live on the upper east side and this area has about 1 homicide every 10 years and it is a very urban dense neighborhood. I rarely even hear sirens anymore. It is a very calm area, much more than it was 30 years ago. Many neighborhoods in Milwaukee are like this also. In my estimate 80% of the homicides and violent crime happen in the north/northwest side of the city and to a lesser degree the near south side.

It is sad that many outside of the city paint the entire town as a violent crime ridden city, but the majority of it is fine to visit or live in.

The first half of the year was very very very slow like 2021 was. The second half of the year was basically the same as 2020. It’s cyclical. We’ll see how 2023 is.

One thing I noticed is that many locations of homicides in Boston look nice rather than the typical run-down areas you see in other cities.

Boston is like L.A where the neighborhoods all look in relatively great shape compared to like Philadelphia, but could be a gangbang hood.

100% agreed. La gets a lot of crap but one thing i can say is the worst of its worst are in pretty good shape.

Both cities went through a significant amount of protests in the late 80s- early 90s.

Not sure how many since then but the fatal shooting at the Mall of America has gotten national and even global attention.
