71 for Pittsburgh is atrocious. Highest in over a decade and 80% higher than pre-COVID.

Last year it was 51 homicides.

Don't tell this to Boston Born or massachoicetts lol. They and others think all 24 sq miles is as bad as Afghanistan and think Oakland is in better shape. Good grief.

But I figured EO would be lower. When I moved out in 2012 it was in the single digits.

Apparently, Newark hit a 60-year homicide low (that's right: low). Does anyone know what they're doing right to be breaking 1961 records in the positive direction?
Here's an article of what they're doing. https://www.cbsnews.com/newyork/news...-homicide-low/

No we dont, its just one of the worst victims of Urban Renewal and is incredibly ugly. The most NJ thing to do is crap on Newark, because its bad.

Birmingham finished with 144. Their all time record was 148 set in 1933.
Birmingham has been a murderous city forever apparently.

Buffalo would be at 57 if we’re including the mass shooting victims (we should be). That’s 20.5/100k. Of course Niagara Falls being a violent adjacent city is noteworthy and fairly unique for Upstate cities, however for purposes of tracking murders we’ll stick with city proper statistics as reported.

But Rochester remains in the unfortunate position of being the leader in homicides with a per capita rate of 36.2/100k. That’s not to mention 300 shootings and 348 shooting victims during 2022. Another brutal year for a city that desperately needs help.
Buffalo is at 63 - officially 62 thru the end of November per citistats, with 1 homicide reported in the news in December. This total includes the mass shooting victims.

2022 total is down from 67 in 2021.

A lot of the Northeast vibes and crime do not correlate.

Like Everett and Revere has reputations that the statistics just don’t back up at all.

And a lot of New York is like that as well. It’s cause Immmigrants just don’t commit murder, even if they’re poor.

NYC finish the year with roughly around 425 in 2022 down from 485 in 2021 and 462 in 2020. The homicide total is highest since 2012 when the city recorded 419. The city recorded under 300 homicides 2017-2018 period but 2013-2019 period the city was doing 290-352 per year. Despite homicides totals and shootings totals lower than 2020 and 2021 periods overall crime in the city is way up highest rate since 2014 period.

I did see an article about overall crime being up 25% in NYC. Not sure if that included property crimes.
