If I'm not mistaken North Philly had a rate in the 50s last year and is lower than the entire city of Baltimore this year. Baltimore with 255 is a rate of 44.

Atlanta at 129 as of mid-December (two weeks remaining). It was at 161 same time last year so it's down 20%. There have been at least two since then so hopefully it will finish below 140 at least, which would be the lowest in this decade which is a low bar since just before COVID below 100 for yearly totals was normal.

Ouch...

The number is just insane for a city with ~150k people. Is this homicide or does this include "Justified homicide"?

It's still better than Ward 7 / Ward 8 of DC (Similar population, 148 homicides this year) but not all of DC is that bad.

An 84 y.o man was tragically killed after being shot in the head after trying to break up a fight outside of his shop in the Lindenwood area of Norfolk last night. Another man critically injured. That's 39 for the year.
