Your guess is as good as mine. Statistics is very iffy without context.

Looking at Walton and Santa Clara the average household income is higher in the former. But when you look at payroll you get:

Total annual payroll, 2020 ($1,000)
Santa Clara: 165,113,675
Walton: 899,061

Definitely not in similar leagues. Size matters. Take Cook County (Chicago) for instance. The total payroll is similar to Santa Clara, but Cook has twice as many people:

Total employment, 2020
Cook: 2,448,843
Santa Clara: 1,129,499
(Walton is 23,278)

Total annual payroll, 2020 ($1,000)
Cook: 165,871,840
Santa Clara: 165,113,675

I'm very interested now in knowing what bumps up Walton so high.

Preston Hollow is a neighborhood of estates. Mark Cuban and other billionaires live there in Dallas proper. The Park Cities are independent enclaves south and adjacent to Preston Hollow. Lakewood and the mansions overlooking White Rock Lake Park in East Dallas is pretty affluent too. Not as much as the Park Cities or Preston Hollow tho.

I think the report should have listed 10 or 20 wealthiest metros not just five. I found another news article the references. https://www.prnewswire.com/news-rele...301621551.html

Dallas/FW was 8th - The report says that DFW has over 4,300 multi-millionaires, 211 centi-millionaires, and 18 billionaires.

What's interesting is Houston's rank given that its most well known industry for wealth creation is Energy which ranks as 5th biggest in wealth creation. Its second biggest industry is healthcare which is 7th on the list. Then you have Dallas/FW which is the most diversified MSA in the south and far higher representation in Financial. Tech and R/E jobs, the top 3 wealth-creating industries, than Houston.

Is DFW the most diversified in the south? I thought that was Atlanta.

How is that even calculated?

They’re basically the same with diversification. DFW just has a bigger economy than Atlanta.

Has to be some formula right? Like dollars per industry?
