I like TarHeelNick ’s comment “chest-thumping” (so accurate!) and I also agree with you.

You (as in anybody) cannot take ranking like this personally. It doesn’t reflect on YOU. Certain states or cities have really high income but so? Not my money.

Besides, moot point of comparing personal income level or moving to a city because there are a lot of “billionaires” and much wealth pouring in. (Especially if the said wealth doesn’t create more employment opportunities for the residences but instead raises COL and infrastructure burden.) I’m certainly not moving back to Paris because Bernard Arnault, the richest person in the world (chairman of LVMH), lives there. Bernard Arnault doesn’t walk around posting online “I’m so rich! Don’t you know I’m rich?!”

As you probably know, a lot of wealthy people don’t flaunt their wealth. They don’t all drive rolls Royce’s. Some have Hondas and take Uber x. That’s why I chuckle when the Miami posters question SFs level of wealth because their waters don’t have the fancy yachts that miamis has.

Median disposable income is IMO the best measure of broad financial well-being.

Completely not true. There are plenty of cities, at least out East, that have large concentrations of wealthy people with zero homelessness. Practically every single wealthy city near NYC comes to mind. Hempstead, NY is only 10k people smaller than SF city and has barely any homeless people.

One time when I visited the Bay Area, my memory was that over in Sausalito, that's where a lot of those 50 foot yachts have there docking spaces. The last 3-4 times I have visited there I didn't go over there to hang around and verify, but I think that's where you have a high concentration of yachts stored.
