Would love to be able argue this like I do with most other topics, but really hard to disprove this popular narrative.

Washington-Arlington-Alexandria $607,628,505

Washington-Baltimore-Arlington $869,398,252

I suppose the 2022 numbers are still being calculated. It's just that this Kenan Institute/UNC report chooses combined statistical regions for their numbers.

So, after looking at the site linked, they're not using CSAs or MSAs. They're using a customized "ESA."

Mobile, Pensacola, Columbus GA and Birmingham are using their old CSAs, while Chattanooga is using a new one. Huntsville is using most of its new one except the Tennessee part. Nashville is missing the piece linking it to Chattanooga and Huntsville that's there in the new CSA. Montgomery is using it's MSA, not even keeping Selma from its CSA from either iteration.

Yeah, i heard San Diego has a young brain drain problem. All the college grads head to LA, SF, or out of state. Don't think many stay in SD.
