Cleveland ended January with 7 but had one yesterday for no. 8. That continues the pace that it has been on for the past 6 months.

The Cuyahoga County suburbs are at 7, though 6 of those came in the first five days of the year. There has only been 1 other since (Jan. 11) in an outer burb that probably averages one every 2-3 years.

For the broader region, I believe both Akron and Canton (and Elyria/Lorain for that matter) are all still at zero. Those 4 cities have averaged between 60 to 70 a year combined.

Rate wise, I have it:
Cleveland- 8/2.16 (pace of 92/24.71)
Cuyahoga burbs - 7/0.79 (80/9.03)
Cuyahoga total - 15/1.19 (172/13.65)

The only one here above normal is the burbs rate but it's thrown off by the flurry at the beginning of the year.

The combined Cleveland/Akron/Canton MSAs is at 19 total for a rate of 0.60 and a pace of 217/6.83, which would be way down by more than 100 compared to recent averages. In fact, Cuyahoga alone has been in the 200 to 250 range alone recently.

4 for Montreal, a very violent start for the city.

Earlier today a body was found on the sidewalk in downtown, still under investigation. So it might be 5 if deemed a homicide.

Like I said earlier, the city is becoming really rough, and seems that it's declined a lot since I left last November.

Boston is still at 1 for the year. The first was on New Year’s Day, so it’s also been over a month since the last murder. Best wishes appreciated toward keeping this streak going!

Good news is that after a historically violent year, Roanoke has yet to log a homicide. Had 4 by this time last year.

Prince William is having a woman abuse problem, all three homicides were of young women being murdered; usually by their partners.

Washington DC - 9
Prince George's County - 9
Henrico County - 4
Portsmouth - 4
Hampton - 3
Prince William County - 3
Chesapeake - 2
Richmond - 2
Fairfax County - 1
Virginia Beach - 1
Norfolk - 1
Petersburg - 1
Suffolk - 1

DC homicides do come in waves. Even last year there are week with like 10 homicides follow by 2 weeks with only 1 or 2.

But yes, hopefully 2023 jump is just noise rather than the "new normal". Will also see if other violent crimes like robbery/mugging and especially carjacking start to go down as well.

Your wish is our command!

DC Crime Stats YTD

Homicides down -50%
Assault w/ a Dangerous Weapon down -29%
Motor Vehicle Theft down -21%

The new crime bills and policy changes in DC when it comes to prosecutions is going to be a game changer.

Now just recall Charles Allen.

Anyway, Baltimore up to 17 now. It is still trending lower than usual but Baltimore is also back to having 2x (around) the homicide rate as DC. Everything is returning to normal...

It's still way too early imho to lock in any trends. Both DC & Baltimore come in waves. That being said, any reduction is a good reduction so I won't complain
