I suppose not many people think of it in the same sense as Boston, Philadelphia, New York, or Washington DC since it didn't have any role in the forming of our country.

Actually, Sante Fe started out as part of the Spanish empire, then Mexico and then the USA got it later.
One city not mentioned on this poll is Santa Fe. It was originally a Pueblo village from 1050 to 1150AD. It is the oldest established European settlement in the USA, and oldest continuously occupied settlement in the USA.
I had an error. It has been continuously inhabited longer than any other city in the USA, but St. Augustine,FL is the oldest continuously inhabited settlement founded by Europeans.
San Juan in Puerto Rico would be a legitimate oddball vote, wouldn't it? It's the oldest city established by Europeans in the US, and its old core is relatively intact.
By this, I mean cities that have had a significant impact on American history and are filled with historical sights. The cities and towns that just ooz good old classic America and its history.
I am quoting the OP so we are reminded what he is what looking for. Not simply which city is oldest but which had a significant impact on the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. Which cities just "ooz" good old classic America.
Its NOT picking your favorite local historic city or which historic city is the most beautiful or colorful.
I hope that before people say Santa Fe, Saint Augustine or XYZ native village for instance, they ask themselves truthfully whether those cities had more of an impact on the United States than Philadelphia, Boston Washington D.C. or even New Orleans. You may personally like XYZ native village more than Boston but lets be honest here.
