None of the cities need huge metro areas near them, they have all the necessary amenities, just maybe not the sports or entertainment.

exactly. A huge city near is convenient, but it is not needed.

This is even the case for much smaller cities. Similar to living in Columbia and not needing to drive to Charlotte.

Doubt people in Beaumont of College Station need Houston for anything.

To say Houston is King in these areas would make my head as big as Atlantans

Also, many people from Huntsville, Tuscaloosa, and Montgomery go to Birmingham to shop. As a black Alabamian, I know most black people go to Birmingham. I know more go to New Orleans. OK. Birmingham has its own airport. Many people go there to catch a flight even if they have a lay over in Atlanta. Alabama has concerts and what-not. Don't act like without Atlanta, Alabama is nothing. I don't know the last time I've been to Atlanta just to go because Alabama lacked the things Atlanta have. Come on now, you act like Alabama has nothing. Without Atlanta, Alabama can stand. What the hell we need Atlanta for? LOL! Some of y'all act like Atlanta is in Alabama and that it is the capitol of Alabama where everything takes place. We have our own minus the pro sports. Alabama and Auburn are our "pro sports." LOL
Someone sounds very threatened here........and in complete and total denial.

Because Atlanta posters what? Expect credit where credit is due? Don't expect next door neighbors to completely mimimize and deny reality?
