Very high density based on rowhomes/townhouses. Relatively good use of public transportation. You could claim San Francisco has "East Coast Elitism". I've heard it called the Boston of the West Coast and vice versa. While they're not identical, they do bear a decent amount of similarities.
Old-money establishment still living in the inner, inner city: Boston (Beacon Hill/Back Bay); New York (Upper East Side) and San Francisco (Pacific Heights/Nob Hill).
San Francisco was designed by early 20th century new-money to look like East Coast old-money. For example, self-consciously grand public buildings in a neo-classical/Beaux Art style like City Hall and the War Memorial Opera House.
