According to that link, almost every suburb that has been mentioned in this thread is an edge city...it seems like and edge city IS a suburban skyline. I'm not sure why Midtown and Buckhead in Atlanta are listed as edge cities. Neither fits the criteria.

Do tech pakrs count in the suburbs? If so then Inverness and the DTC in Denver are great...

It runs right along the interstate for about 10 to 15 miles.

I know, I looked at that. Towson is also listed as an edge city, as are Bellvue and Clayton.

Irvine isn't in Los Angeles County, it is in Orange County. Los Angeles County (population 9.9 million) is located adjacent and to the north of Orange County (population 2.9 million). Downtown L.A. to the border with Orange County is about 17 miles. From the OC/LA border to Irvine is 21 miles.

Irvine and all of Orange County are a part of the Los Angeles-Long Beach-Santa Ana Metropolitan Area and of course function as one urban area with same news, media, airport sharing, commuters into and out of both, etc....

But yes, you are right, L.A. County is huge.

LA county is humongous!!! If that's 38 miles away and you still can see LA, I've been there before though...
  • Wikipedia is not a legit source for anything
  • Anything within the city limits of an actual city cannot be an "edge city"
  • An edge city is not a suburb.

Galleria is suburban though. It's in the city, but everything about it is suburban. Not really pedestrian friendly, have to use a car, poor mass transit, strip malls everywhere. It's suburban by definition but still in the city limits so that's why it doesn't count. If that same skyline was in any other city outside of Texas, it would be in a suburb somewhere and it would easily be one of the best suburban skylines in America. This is why the Williams Tower is the largest scraper outside a CBD when it was built.

BTW, anyone have Evanston, Illinois? That's a pretty good suburban skyline. Or look at the DC area skylines(Rosslyn).
