Hi all. Considering a move to Sarasota area from southwest Connecticut (hour from NYC). We are in our mid 20s and can probably live a cheaper/better lifestyle in FL than possible in CT.

We enjoy outdoor activities, the beach and travel.

What do you think? I'd love to hear your pros and cons before I schlep my family there.

of course its cheaper in florida, but your salary will drop along with the lower cost of living

I've taken that into account. I'm not so worried about the cost as much as I'm concerned with my preferences. Weather, food, things do to, etc. I probably should have put that in my original post, sorry.

Will I feel like an outcast as a 26 year old in the gateway to heaven? lol...

PROS:

1. Tampa is not far from there, so if you want to go party at a club or eat out, then it's only an hour drive.

2. The beaches there are staggering.
3. Nice amount of historical sites, and nice big mansions
4. Pretty good nature park

CONS:

1. Traffic can be a big pain.

I notice you said your family- do you have kids? You will be going from one of the better school systems in the country to.... well, florida. Do you do any winter recreation? if not, winter is a pretty useless time and you might as well not have it! It really is a personal preference.

I'd have an easy time with this choice. Sarasota for many reasons including weather, activities, beach, cost of living and nicer people IMO.

Florida has it's share of old people (and I can see why they would want to spend their retirement in Florida) but there is no shortage of young people, either.

^ one hour away away from nyc

you respond to the op post without fully reading what the op stated.

you need to see if your high school has a reading comprehension class for you to take. it is annoying because you have done it more than once
