I like how the OP posted pictures of the whole Chicago skyline, but only tiny pieces of New York's.

Is there anyone else out there that thinks the Spire pretty much ruins the Chicago skyline? It looks like an out-of-place joke.

The Spire represents the future of the Chicago skyline. The Loop will continue to grow and evolve over time, whereas new skyscraper development in Manhattan is extremely limited by having so many buildings designated as historic sites.

NYC's sheer size and density dominates Chicago's skyline. Midtown alone has more buildings than the Loop. It's hard to compare 5,000 buildings versus 1,000.

How can you even add the Spire when that thing is dead in the water?

What about this? They dont build highrises only in manhattan there are high rises across the boros and skyscrapers in brooklyn and new highrises and skyscrapers being built outside of manhattan. Also you are forgetting but upper manhattan.

Example outside Manhattan

Based on what i just stated they are still building midtown meaning that there is alot of space. Here are some pictures of buildings going up in midtown

I really don't like modern day skyscrapers. Bring back the art-deco looks.

Is the Spire is dead? I heard different things and its just on hold because of the economy. On the other hand if it is stopped - it gives the city a good chance to redesign the building to something a little more conservative. The city needs something big, bold and grand but not something so risky that it might be called "the mistake by the lake" for the next 100 years if it does not work out.

Yep its on Hold but it looks dead. Since the site is just a hole in the ground anything can go there.
