Both new york and florida are populated states but they are both are very rural and have large tracts of wilderness areas for example the adirondack and catskill mountains in new york and the everglades in florida.
But what does every one else feel about these states, which do you prefer over the other?
Seriously, can't compare. I happen to be getting more intolerant of cold so I'm inclined to lean to Florida, but the Adirondacks is one of my favorite places on earth. Then again, so is South Florida. They are two different things and each one offers a completely different, and excellent, life. Also, it depends what parts of each state. There are frozen tundra cities in NY State that I would never want to live in, and there are backcountry, swampy, humid, bug-ridden hick towns in Florida that I would never want to live in.
The way it works now is that people from NY (and NJ) tend to travel to Florida quite a bit. That's a good arrangment. Live in one or the other, and then travel to the other one. Since there's more job opportunity and money in the North I'd prefer to live here and travel to there. But they're both excellent

Like the 2nd poster said, NY by a mile. Florida is a nice place to visit, but that's it. I need 4 seasons. 80% of the year in Florida is very humid. No thank you. Also, they don't have a NYC there
I'll go with Florida. NYC is a VERY fun city, and can probably out do any florida city by 1trillion miles one on one. BUT I think there is ALOT more to do throughout FLA then NY STATE. You can drive 4hours north of Miami(which is argualbly Floridas most popular city) and still end up in Orlando, with PLENTY to do. In New York, I think it's different, upstate NY is nice to LOOK at from a nature standpoint but other then that.....well I personally think upstate looks kinda boring, besides the NYC metro, NY state looks like a place to JUST take pics, and postcards, but other then that it's kinda boring. PLENTY of tourist go to Miami, orlando, tampa, daytona ect, ect, but PLENTY of tourist go to, well...NYC, and MAYBE Niagra Falls in upstate, most of upstates tourist consist of Niagra Falls. But that's just me.

In Upstate, you have the Adirondacks, the wine country in the Finger Lakes region, you have two Great Lakes which have beaches(I know, it is different) and nice tourist communities like Sackets Harbor and Oswego, among others, the Baseball Hall of Fame, the Boxing Hall of Fame, the National Soccer Hall of Fame, Amusement Parks like Darien Lake and the Great Escape, the 1000 Islands Region and much more. Look up communities like Skaneateles, Sylvan Beach, Alexandria Bay, Lake Placid, Saranac Lake, Ithaca, Canandaigua, Penn Yan, Corning, Saratoga Springs and Cooperstown.
Also, Buffalo, Rochester, Syracuse and Albany aren't that bad.
Long Island has beaches and nice toruisty communities too.
Also, where I live, you can get to other places like Philly, Toronto, Montreal, DC, Baltimore, Boston and Cleveland, among others, within 5-6 hours.
New York. Get me the H--- out of Florida. Right now a whole section of the Everglades are on FIRE (dry season). We are supposed to get all of the smoke tomorrow. More to come in the next few months of dry season.
