Why do some describe cities like NYC, Philly, Chicago, D.C., Miami, ect, beautiful cities when there is to me almost nothing naturally appealing about them? Do you find them beautiful? Are they beautiful to you because of thier built environment or what is it?? Just curious.
Thanks for the feedback. There are very few large cities in the US that would even consider beautiful. Some are San Diego, Seattle, Phoenix (desert environment), SF (but not it's built environment) and Honolulu.
Some larger cities that are not neccessarily beautiful but are well-kept and/or appealing are: Charlotte, Boston, Orlando, Minneapolis...?

I do not get it. Cities are a result of human effort, they have nothing to do with a natural appeal... Now, if you find beauty in them is a matter of taste. I do. Art in general does not have anything to do with natural appeal, again it is a result of deliberate human action.

NYC and Chicago skylines are amazing. DC has great green space and great architecture. And than Miami has a great skyline with the great natural beauty of South Florida, Biscayne Bay, the clear blue water and skies, some of the best beaches in the world. Miami is a very clean city also so is DC.

The way Chicago stretches across the lakefront is breathtaking. You have the tallest skyscrapers in the western hemisphere on one side, and a beautiful beachfront on the other. You have thousands of people jogging, biking, rollerblading along the beachfront. Farther west into the city you have the streets filled with people. You have very elegant towers in River North, and Massive office towers in the loop.
I hate how those on the border environmentalist bash the man made structure of Chicago, NYC, and Houston etc but does anyone know how impressive it is to build such big cities!?
I think it's beautiful how some of the architecture is in some cities, it's art. The nature is beautiful too but that's virtually everywhere.. even in cities like NYC, Philly, LA, etc
where else are we going to fit 6 billion people in this world... when a city is done with great architect and time, it is beautiful.
Hopefully i'm making sense!
