Yea, California really got the shaft with their latest ranking. Both LA and SF/Bay Area thrown out of the mix. It seems odd that only NYC and Chicago would be listed for the US.
I hate to tell you but the Above Statsics for this are incorrect, I do this for the Government, and the Numbers On Points were incorect, based on the two latest most important GaWC reports from Both 2008, Which Did Not List NEITHER Texas City in the Alpha- Cities But Atlanta Is an Alpha-City, Both Houston and Dallas ae Listed as only Beta Cities in the 2008 Reports, and In the 2010 Reports which are less construed, than the 2012 reports list Dallas as an Alpha-, but still not Houston it was oy a Beta+world city, but Atlanta is an Alpha- in Every Report since 1998, which was the first official gathering of the amounts of information, to make these determinations.
LONDON & NEW YORK (only two true Alpha++);
(Alpha+)Los Angeles (Alpha) US cities included Chicago, & San Francisco, one on the border beween Alpha & Alpha-being Washington DC more widley considered a Alpha- World City, The Most Argreable (Alpha-) US Cities where Atlanta, Miami, Philadelphia, and Boston, and Dallas, but Dallas the lowest ranked of the Alpha- cities. Houston being the only US (Beta+)world city, (Beta) US cities Minneapolis, and Seattle, (Beta-) US cities Detroit, Denver & Cleveland, the next class where (Gamma+)US Cities included where Cincinnati, Charlotte, Baltimore, Portland & San Jose, (Gamma) US cities Kansas City, Phoenix,Tampa, Columbus, Indianapolis, Pittsburgh, (Gamma-) Us cities Orlando, Richmond, Austin, Miwaukee, Then the (High Suffiency) US cities, you have Jacksonville, Raleigh, Salt Lake, Las Vegas, Hartford, Nashville, St. Louis, then Last of the GaWorld Cities catagories are the (Suffiency)US cities which are San Antonio, Birmingham, Omaha, Honolulu, Palo Alto, Rochester, Memphis,Santa Cruz, Norwich, New Orleans.
In the Latest 2012, these ratings did NOT Include San Francisco, nor Washington as (Alpha)WCs they were both (Alpha-), along with Atlanta, Boston & Miami also listed as (Alpha-)WCs, the 2012 Ratings Had Philadelphia, Dallas & Houston listed as being (Beta+)WCs
Although there is a general consensus on which are the leading world cities, there is no agreed upon roster covering world cities below the highest level. So an Inventory of World Cities was made up by a team called GaWC Globalization and World Cities - Study Group At Loughborough University in the UK. The inventory of world cities based upon their level of advanced producer services. Global service centres are identified and graded for accountancy, advertising, banking/finance and law. Aggregating these results produces a roster of hundreds of world cities at 5 levels: There are 47 Alpha Cities. The only two ranking with A++ are New York and London.
The 2004 rankings acknowledged several new indicators while continuing to rank city Economics more heavily than political or cultural factors. The 2008 roster, similar to the 1998 version, is sorted into categories of "Alpha" world cities (with four sub-categories), "Beta" world cities (three sub-categories), "Gamma" world cities (three sub-categories) and additional cities with "High sufficiency" or "Sufficiency" presence. The following is a general guide to the rankings
Alpha++ cities are New York City and London, which are vastly more integrated with the global economy more than any other cities. Alpha+ cities complement New York City and London by filling advanced service niches for the global economy. Alpha & Alpha- cities are cities that link major economic regions into the world economy. Beta level cities are cities that link moderate economic regions into the world economy. Gamma level cities are cities that link smaller economic regions into the world economy. Sufficiency level cities are cities that have a sufficient degree of services so as to not be obviously dependent on world cities.
