@ Grapico: Yes, if I remember correctly there's a couple 1,000ft+ towers in the works for San Francisco, with one eclipsing 1,300 if I'm not mistaken. However, the last I heard of these projects was before the economy turned from "downturn" to "crisis", so I'm not sure how the economic climate has affected those projects.
One more thing I love about Philly's skyline: Its biggest skyscrapers are easily its best. Comcast, 1 and 2 Liberty Place and Mellon Bank Tower are among my 4 favorite skyscrapers in the country. TranAmerica Pyramid in SF is ugly as hell up close (good from far, far from good type of situation) and the Bank of America tower in downtown is good but not great. That's another reason why I like Philly's skyline a little bit more than SF's
Um, this is about Philly & SF, not Tampa, so he's allowed to say whatever he wants. Personally, I like the SF skyline better.. I never really "felt" the Philly skyline despite the mass popularity.
SF easily has THE best skyline in the whole US. One of the most impressive angles is from behind the Golden Gate Bridge in Golden Gate National Rec area across the bay. It puts the GGB in the foreground and the hills behind Oakland in the background and shows the "SF peninsula" going from right to left in the middle. Almost equally as impressive is if you move in from that position and get right in the middle of the bay (the photo in here shows it really hazy, but when it's clear and you can see the undulation of the hills between the camera and downtown, it's AWESOME.
Another great angle is from atop Twin Peaks. Another is with the Palace of Fine Art in the Foreground. Then of course there is the angle with the Painted Ladies in the foreground. So many different angles that each totally blow every other US city out of the water!
alot of camera angles can't do the skyline of SF's justice.
If you are coming in on the 101 headed toward the 7 st. exit you just see a mass of buildings ... there is a slight dropoff ...then some more high buildings on the left...you really have to experience it.
some angles taken from Alcatraz make it look even smaller buts that is because there are hills within city limits so they sort of block off some of the density
case in point..this shot shows alot of the buildings not in sight
then you have this..
also, don't forget theres oakland right across the bay as well....
