Explore them yourself, go to google streetview:

First go to google maps:

For Lower Haight type:
"Haight and Fillmore San Francisco, CA"
Then hit enter and drag the guy to that intersection, then head WEST on Haight.

For Ukranian Village type
"Damen and Division Chicago, IL"
Then hit enter and drag the guy to that intersection, then head SOUTH on Damen.

Which of these two somewhat random neighborhoods seem/look more urban?

Also, as a note, this is Lower Haight, a very different and much less popular neighborhood than the famous Haight/Ashbury

Both have nearly identical people per square mile at around $27,000... and similar building density. About the same in regards to urbanity. But man.. did Haight Ashbury creep me out when I was in San Fran.

Just remember, though...Lower Haight and Haight/Ashbury are two very different neighborhoods.

The San Francisco one looks more urban, it looks like it has more going on than the street in Chicago .

SF looks a bit more urban for this comparison, but Chicago seems to have way more trees so it obscures the view on the street.

Both great examples of very different forms of urbanity.

Im going to Chicago soon for the first time! getting excited...

What made the OP pick these two neighborhoods? Are we going to compare other neighborhoods as well?

Just picked two random neighborhoods that seemed similar...Both are close to bigger, more trendy areas (Haight/Ashbury and Wicker Park), and both seemed to feel similarly urban.

I think streetview is a cool (although very limited) way of exploring neighborhoods, just meant for fun...
