Atheist need to get their facts right. When you get your info from people who hate religion, odds are the facts are not going to put religion in a good light. Here's the truth which can be easily researched from sources that are not bias. Example: Richards Dawkins quoted a Paul G. Bell when he called people with religion stupid, Paul G. Bell does not exist. Search Mensa in the U.S. and International, and search the internet. Chris Hitchens writes books with no references. Source: Him.

Concerning atheist are smarter and less violent. These stats are based off of racism and the oppression of black people. Use the figures from the atheist source and compare them to the U.S. Census. Notice the race, population, poverty, unemployment, schooling and so on. There are major (not little) differences. When you ungroup religion and compare the numbers by religion, atheist tend to be dumber than most religions.

Christians are intolerant? According to the FBI hate crimes stats, atheist are 3 times more likely to be the aggressor of a hate crime then the victim. What happened when Cali allowed gays to get married before the vote, nothing. What happened when the people got to vote? Churches got attacked and so did people. Did the Christians vote against it? No. Americans voted against it. That's their constitutional right.

Christians control America? Abortions, Stem Cell, Gay Bars, Radio and TV, Hollywood, Darwin in school, Prayer removed, 10 commandments removed, crosses removed and so on. Does that sound like control?

Christians are behind mass murders. The Crusades took place over 800 years ago and Christian acknowledge it, while atheist refuse to acknowledge Mao, Stalin, North Korea, the atheist Chinese Government supplying Darfur, Pot, Lenin and so on. How many atheist lead governments can you name that hasn't murdered millions of people? The fact is, all wars are motivated by greed and power, which is what Jesus teaches against.

Radical Christians? Besides the TV characters, who are they? How many people have they killed? There have been 8 abortion related murders in a 33 year period, close to 100 church related murders in a 10 year period. The Westboro Baptist Church, is condemned by every other church in America. How many people have been beheaded by Christians? Name them and what's your source?

The bible. Christians pick and choose verses. Yes they do, so do atheist. The difference is that Christians know the difference and understand the meaning. How many homosexuals can you name that Christians have stoned to death within the past 500 years in America? Christians go by the teaches of Christ, not what the atheist would like to believe is Christianity. They don't get to define Christianity, Christ does.

Child abuse? Last time I looked into a dictionary a person that molest little boys was defined as a homosexual child molester, not a priest. In fact, the bible teaches against that.

What's the difference in the New Atheist Movement and the propaganda that Hitler used on the Jews, or how Mao, Kim and Stalin got rid of religion? It's the same techniques, just more modern. Really, what's different.

Why does science disprove God when God is the one that put science here in the first place? How much does man really know about the universe and earth? Not much. One strain of DNA contains more information than 50 Encyclopedia Britannica combined. How can the earth and Universe be so detailed and perfect? We live on a planet that has the material to make cars, medicine, oxygen, plants, computers and so on. What are the odds? God made science and science made the Spaghetti Monster.

So far, 100% of the stats that I researched that gets passed around in the media and on the internet have been lies, come from bias sources, have studies that say otherwise, or are only half truths. Is there a bias? Go to YouTube and type in the word Christian in the search bar and count the negative responses, do the same for atheist. The outcome can be found on almost all public websites.

Why are atheist "freethinkers" and anybody who thinks different ignorant? Is that freethinking? Teaching Darwin as fact when his book contains words like "I think, could be, might have" and so on over 800 times and banning religion from school so that students can choose what to believe, is that freethinking? Teachers can't even criticize Darwin. Why do so many Christians pay taxes to a school to have their children taught atheism? That's the same thing Stalin did.

The fact, Americans and Conservatives are not Christians, only people that follow Christ are Christians. Only Christ gets to define Christianity, not a person or church. God does not allow millions of people to starve to death in Africa, we do. God says for use to feed them. God does not allow bad things to happen to good people, he allows people to make their decisions and they do the bad things. He didn't make robots. Christians either started or were the driving force behind science, education and hospitals. How many atheist are in Africa helping the poor? How many atheist charities are there? Why do atheist quote the violence in the Old Testament when they don't even believe it to be true? Why do they show images of the actions of another belief and talk about Christianity. What's the difference in not believing in God and believing in God and blaming that on wars? A belief is a belief, no matter what it is. An atheist god is himself, rather he calls it god or not. Atheism has a violent history. Jeffery Dahmer, the Columbine Shootings, the Finland School Shootings and many of the school shooters either hated God or did not believe in him, Stalin, Lenin, Marx, Hitler (had a evolution view and saw himself as god, the religious quotes were propaganda and he took control of the churches and locked up the clergy, see the Nuremberg Trials), Mao, North Korea, Castro, 1000s of Church Arsons and Murders, all the communist leaders in the past and present. Do you really want to get rid of religion? Look at history and decide.

There are hundreds of archeological discovers concerning the bible, the bible contains scientific foreknowledge (Google it). It does not contradict it, read the whole book. It can be taken literally, just understand the times, the language, the translation and the story. The bible was made for believers, when an non believer searches it for errors, you can be sure that they will find them. People find truth in what they'll looking for, rather if it's true or not is another story. Man lie, make mistakes, have agendas, over look and view things from their world view, do you really want to trust people who know very little to tell you that there's no God? It's your soul, research what I say and what they say and be opened minded to it.

That was a very long post and brought back a 2 year old thread. You also just made it a thread for great debates or religion section and not for the General US.

What a juicy post to which I'd love to respond. Too bad it's going to make the moderators unhappy. Would be great for discussion in a different forum. I wouldn't mind taking the debate elsewhere. The question is where?

Regarding the appearance of the PNW as irreligious versus, for example, the NYC area as (surprisingly) religious, I believe that there are semantics at play.

Many fundamentalist Christians claim to have no religious adherence because they are not members of a church or belong to a non-incorporated, independent church, thus they do not show up as easily on polls.

In New York City you have a lot of proud self-proclaimed Catholics and Jews who have not seen the inside of a church or synagogue. A lot of 'Jews' (Reform) enjoy a bacon cheeseburger (doubly non-kosher) and a lot of Catholics are actually Athiest when it comes to believing in a sentient god and concepts like heaven and hell.

On the other hand, there are some really serious Catholics in NYC who believe in stuff like demon possession and the inevitability of an eternity in hell if you don't go to confession. Likewise, the most conservative and pious Jews in the world (perhaps, outside of Israel) also make their home in the NYC area.

Also between Catholics and Jews, many of them it is a 'cultrual' type rather than a devout religious type. Also the two groups are much less in-your-face and extroverted on their religion than other types.

Catholics are such an interesting group. Where I live, most Catholics are devout, but in other places, it's just a cultural thing, very much like being Jewish. I don't think that many Catholics realize that if you don't believe, then you can stop being Catholic. It's not a life time thing that you can't get out of. I don't know what it is about Catholicism that makes so many people want to identify with it, even if they don't believe.

It's funny, how atheist continue to call religious people dumb and wonder why they're the least liked people in America.

And by the way, the stats that say religious people are dumber then atheist are based off of racism. Just compare the states that are used to the U.S. Census to verify this. While your at it, look at the proverty level, unemployment, teacher/student ratio, teacher pay, population and everything else. Good job using racism to make a point, Stalin would be so proud of you.

Actually, I would say it is only the loudest Athiests who are least liked and the loudest Christians who are dumb.

They mainly yell at each other which is good so that we normal Athiests and Christians get be left in peace to get on with our lives.

No, it isn't ironic. It makes perfect sense.
