A lot of these Dallas comments have surprised me. The "boring" , "hicks", "cowboy hats", "fat" etc.
I was expecting to see a lot more "plastic", "pretentious", "brand new", "well maintained", "flashy", "upscale", "progressive" and so on.
A lot of people have a very wrong impression of Dallas. When you are the fastest growing city in the country, the culture will definitely be influenced by all the growth and new residents from around the world. There is a lot going on in Dallas and it has a very promising future. Why would it be growing so much if not? The negative comments are just surprising to me. Living here I cant think of anything negative to say about it.

Wouldn't some of the comments you suggested such as plastic, pretentious, and flashy be just as negative as boring, hicks, and fat?
I could see someone describing it as brand new and well-maintained, maybe even possibly upscale, but progressive? Not that Dallas is backwards in any way, but it's not exactly synonymous with progressiveness like SF and Boston are.
- New York: The greatest city in the world.
- L.A.: Cars, traffic
- Chicago: Italian beef!
- Houston: Oil!
- Phoenix: Hot, sunny
- Miami: Palm trees
- Dallas: George W. Bush lives here
- Las Vegas: Casino!
- San Francisco: PCC cars
- Seattle: Mount Rainier!
