I guess you must have forgotten the title of the thread already. Here it is again in case you forgot: "Which city has the best rap artists/R&B singers??"
Lots of people move around. Who cares if John Legend was born in Ohio? Evidence has a freestyle over Lil Wayne's "Let the Beat Build" called "Celeb Reality" where he talks about all the celebrities he knew back in high school. John Legend was one of them along with Alchemist, Nicole Ritchie, and Mike Einziger from Incubus. John Legend isn't mainly R&B, he's 100% R&B. He's also one of the most popular singers in the business. He's been on Oprah for god's sake. Fergie is in the Black Eyed Peas along with Will.I.Am. The Black Eyed Peas are also one of the top selling groups of the last decade.
Kobe? Kobe who? Fergie? John Legend? Kurupt? And I dont know who some of these others are. You named about 25 people, but I dont see any who lyrically can compete with Nas, Raekwon, GZA... (from New York).
Nas, Raekwon, and GZA were great rappers, as in past tense. They had their time to shine over 10 years ago. Nas' last 3-4 albums have been straight garbage and Raekwon and GZA haven't came out with sh*t in several years. All of the rappers I named, with the exceptions of Snoop, Kurupt, and Quik, are all newer rappers who are just coming into their own. Bishop Lamont, Crooked I, Chace Infinite, Evidence, Planet Asia, and Defari can all hold their own alongside any rapper you can name. I didn't even list as many LA rappers as I could have. There's also Chali 2na, Glasses Malone, The Game, Maestro, Ras Kass, Shade Sheist, Young Dre the Truth, Indef, PR1ME, and all of the old-school West Coast rappers like Warren G and Ice Cube. Saigon is the only new rapper coming out of NYC that isn't trying to sound like he's from the South, unlike MIMS and Maino.
My poorly worded friend is right. As much as New Yorkers talk about how great they are they can't seem to name a single person who has been that great in the past 5 or 6 years.

Fabolous, 50 cent. Lets not forget how new york produced the biggest new artist this decade, fall back
Dylan? lol. Heck naw! He was hardly ever with the group.
Yeah I was just joking. Dylan sucks (professionally!) and he's an embarrassment to Grenada. I just have to give a nod to Chappelle if people ever bring up Da Band.

Well I agree about 50 Cent for the most part, but not so much in the last 5 years. The first half of the decade I'd pretty much crown him and Eminem for though.

They are good rappers, the thing is they are being blocked by the Southern Rappers, because Southern Hip Hop is all comercial and not lyrical.
