Pittsburgh has my vote. The shape of it's downtown positioned snugly between the two rivers is brilliant. And all those bridges give a great balance that is pleasing to the eye. The way the foothills rise around the town is lovely too. Pittsburgh always had a fascinating skyline to me. Nothing quite like it in the US in my book besides New York.

I think I like Minneapolis's more especially if you include St. Paul.

Minneapolis is ok... too many buildings from one era though (post modern) for my tastes. It just can't compete with the building style and diversity/texture of Pittsburgh. Not to mention more iconic buildings, and its perfect setting at the rivers intersection among the many hills/bridges. Its really not even close if you ask me.

How does that work? Downtown Minneapolis and Downtown St. Paul are almost 10 miles apart.

I don't know why so many seem to think Pittsburgh's buildings are short. Here's the heights of downtown Pittsburgh's ten tallest buildings:

841, 725, 635, 616, 615, 582, 535, 520, 511, 485

Pittsburgh has 29 over 300 feet.

Top ten tallest buildings in Minneaplis:

792, 775, 774, 668, 579, 561, 539, 504, 498, 492

Minneapolis has 33 over 300 feet.

As you can see the two cities are rather comparible in height.

Walking through DT Pittsburgh is like walking through a mini-Manhattan, it's fantastic.

Normally I'd pick Pittsburgh over a lot of places but I think Mpls has an unparralelled balance to it's skyline. It's much more solid and rounded out. Having your top 3 all within a few feet of each other makes for a nice dramatic stepdown affect once the other buildings start trailing off from there.

I like both but Mpls edges out Pitt for me.
