Simple, modern, architectural lights look the best in most places, tho the yee-olde-traffic-light look is OK in older neighborhoods.

The best thing would to be to get rid of all traffic signals and signs and project the info on your windshield using GPS. I seem to be the only person to think of this tho.

Some town in Holland got rid of traffic signals and signs altogether and it's working remarkably well. People have become more courteous and the accident rate actually went down. And the streets look much better, of course.

I really dislike those yellow metal traffic signal cases. I live in Kentucky, which I think is the only eastern state with black plastic cased traffic signals - plus every signal in the state has been switched to LED. We also don't have those stupid "left turn signal" signs but instead just have a red turn arrow.

Here are several of my KY photos with traffic signals in them

The best traffic lights will be in some small town that no one as ever heard of. A large city will not go all out on traffic lights because they have too many and would cost too much. Most large cities will have similar, basic lights.

This thread does achieve one thing. It exposes the true homers who will say their city has the best of anything, no matter what it is.

I was just thinking the same thing. How would anyone know if there city had the best of anything unless they have travelled the entire country. And why would anyone really care about traffic lights in the first place?

The traffic lights in Florida don't look any different than anywhere else.
