Yea it's pretty refreshing! I think it's probably because there's a mutual respect between the cities. They're built in a (relatively) similar fashion, so forumers from both cities can identify with one another. Unfortunately, whenever it's Sunbelt vs Northeast the threads will always take a much, much different path.

DC doesn't have anything approaching the North End, but I would say that the residential portions of Back Bay and South End are pretty similar to Adams Morgan, Columbia Heights, Dupont Circle. (Of course Back Bay has far more retail, but South End seems to have less activity then any of the DC neighborhoods) I believe all neighborhoods has roughly similar densities (25,000-35,000 ppsm) and housing styles (3/4 story row houses and midrise apartment buildings.)
I don't think there is another neighborhood in the country similar to the North End. I believe its density is in the 50,000+/sq mile range, and it's all done with row-homes. Similar to downtown Boston, the street grid is downright chaotic. It's not good for driving, but great for walking. Little Italy is easily my favorite neighborhood to walk through in Boston.

Agreed! Love it or hate it, Boston is one of the few truely urban cities in the US.
Thanks! DC is in the same boat. I'm excited to visit there this fall for my cousins wedding.

I was thinking the same thing. I can’t think of any other neighborhood in the entire US that has a similar urban environment to the North End. You’ll have to go to Europe to find that.

Default dc

I think DC. Pics of the DC skyline don't do it justice because it doen't have any skycrapers. DC at street level is very urban. Not by alot though. Boston is very urban and "chic" too. I don't really have time to explain. sorry. from my experience, people from boston tend to think of themselves as being more urban and cool than everyone except NY. And one of my good friends (and several not close friends) is from there. I'm not going off stereotypes.

We're more urban and much cooler than anyone. Didn't you get the memo?

In all honesty, I went to school in South Carolina (Clemson), so I understand (you being a Bammer) our attitude is much different than yours. I remember people expecting me to be a cocky a*hole. I remember getting a haircut and the woman cutting my hair in some ridiculous style said "It was the look I needed to be the cocky Northerner".

In all honesty though, why shouldn't we be proud of our city? Boston is a badass place. We may look cocky to you, but we're just proud of where we come from.
