No it doesn't because LA County never officially went over 2,000 murders.

Yes it does because none of NYC's 5 counties individually logged over 1944 murders in any particular year like LA county did in 1992.

No it doesn't because the city of New York alone logged 2,200+ murders with 7 million people while LA County peaked at 1,944 murders in 1993 with 9 million people.

So you were talking about murder counts , and considering that you're throwing population in the mix, you're now talking about murder rates. It's county vs county not city vs county, and NYC is a city jurisdiction which consists of 5 different counties.So Bronx County vs LA County, Kings County vs LA County, New York County vs LA County, Queens County vs LA County, and Richmond County vs LA County. It's not hard to understand that NYC has the top 10 highest murder counts ever recorded when it comes to city jurisdictions, and LA County has at least 8 of the top 10 highest murder counts ever recorded when it comes to county jurisdictions.

I know what New York City is. Thats not the point. What I'm saying is New York is the only city to ever surpass 2,000 murders and it also accounted for more murders than all of LA County even with a smaller population. This is strictly for those who said LA County had more murders than New York City. That is false. LA County never in history surpassed 2,000 murders even though it has a larger population New York City.

Counties don't do anything in the Northeast, they run the registry of deeds

L.A County Surpassed 2,000 homicides through the 80's & 90's

And the coroner office includes all homicides including New York city, it dont matter if someone was in a shoot out with a cop or vice versa,These are still murders that took place

90 : 2,373
91 : 2,401
92 : 2,589*
93 : 1,944*
94 : 1,669*
95 : 1,682*
96 : 1,389*
97 : 1,176
98 : 959*
99 : 891

*1982: 2,050

* 1983: 1,917

* 1984: 1,839

* 1985: 1,856

* 1986: 2,040

* 1987: 1,997

* 1988: 1,892

* 1989: 2,091

That doesn't seem fair. LA County has like 4.7k sq miles whilst NYC, which is extremely well connected by mass transit among other things, is only around 300 sq miles. If you add in everything that makes NYC MSA, it's just so much worse.

In general though, if I talk to anyone around in the 70s, 80s, and early 90s in most cities, they speak about the fun and the danger those time periods were. One thing that stands out to me is how much the people I ask in NYC say the times made them paranoid and depressed. The near financial collapse caused the NYPD, NYFD, and other departments to become tiny and honestly looking at the old pictures, it does look like a nuke fell on a good portion of the inner city, especially the South Bronx, with its burnings and abondonments. I highly doubt the official numbers are right for any place, but NYC has so many nooks and crannies, I wouldn't be surprised if it was a lot higher.

My father whom grew up in Chicago 1959+ tells me about Cabrini Greene, how they used to take shots at the cops near by.

I dunno, it's actually quite depressing thinking about how bad America let our cities get...

NYC is 5 counties combined as 1 city !!

L.A is just 1 city and 1 county so how is it not fair ?

L.A county and the 5 boroughs damn near had the same amount of population in the 80's & 90's.

Is it fair to compare 5 combined counties to 1 city ?
