I am surprised by all the negative responses on jersey, have most ever been, last time I checked I believe it is the wealthiest and highest educated in the country. Plus has some great areas, Norman Rockwell like towns scattered all over, mountains, shore, quat villages and cities.
But maybe who cares it is already the most densely populated so maybe no newcomers are really needed anyway.
Well i dont live there but have spent most of summer down the shore

Exactly, I'm sorry but anyone who thinks New Jersey = Perth Amboy is a fool.

I'm not surprised, people have a bad view of NJ, but that's OK. As you said, the state doesn't try to attract newcomers, with the exception of a little bit of tourism they want to attract from neighboring states like PA, NY, Del.
I think NJ, other than the shore, is a better place to live than to visit. Other than the shore, most of the state is geared towards residents and not visitors. Hotels tend to be in corporate areas and hotels are not cheap in NJ, so it's not a big tourist destination other than the shore/Atlantic City.
I can always tell the people who either have never been to NJ or only were in the area between Newark Airport and NYC because of their negative reaction.
