Which city feels more vibrant (busy, commercial strips, pedestrian activity, built environment, etc) San Francisco or Philadelphia?

I am talking in the core areas (downtown and adjacent neighborhoods)

I have always assumed that San Francisco is vibrant over a wider area, but I haven't actually been so I can't say for sure.

I'd say it's pretty close, but I give the edge to SFO.

SF by a small margin IMO. Both cities are pretty vibrant with SF and Market and then Philly with Center City/Broad.

This is a very tough call, this is one of the best city vs. city threads I've seen. I voted for SF but Philly is definitely not far behind.

Philly's vibrancy is on a larger scale than San Francisco!

Spending a lot of time in both. This to me this is just about a dead heat - Though I do believe SF will win (and by a decent margin on here) SF is the darling and Philly is bastard in this race - both are vibrant

Personally I think both are in the top 5 in terms of downtown vibrancy - and both winners in my book

I disagree, SF's vibrancy extends really far into the outer neighborhoods. Places like the outer mission, the Castro, lower Haight, and even the Inner Sunset all feel very bustling and vibrant, despite being very far removed from downtown.

I voted for Philly on this one, although it was a tough call. I only voted for Philly since it was defined as downtown and adjacent neighborhoods, and I think Philly's Center City neighborhoods slightly beat out, overall, the downtown SF neighborhoods. Get out into the non-downtown adjacent neighborhoods, though, and that's where SF really shines.
