Yeah I kinda agree Nooge is kinda a stooge - but ya gotta admit, he's a helluva guitar player and did do his share to blow up the Motor City. And I must say I am impressed with DET's musical output! DET's music history is impressive even w/o mentioning Motown. Oh and speaking of Stooges, isn't Iggy from DET? And yeah, I dig Bob better too.
You are absolutely right. My son's Dad made sure I was aware of that.

Yes, Ted is a good guitar player, but very arrogant, IMHO.

Yes, Iggy is from Detroit, as is the Romantics, Alice Cooper, the Ramones, White Stripes, Eminem, ICP(don't listen to them--they may be more local), Grand Funk Railroad, Madonna(went to junior high with her), MC5. Can't think of any others at the moment, but I'm sure there are more.

I remember staying in California for a while in 1975 and when I mentioned Bob Seger's music, I would always get "Bob who?" lol

I think the song most attached to a city is the theme from New York, New York. Great song. Not a city, but practically every public event in Alabama they play Sweet Home Alabama. I'm Shipping Up to Boston by the Dropkick Murphys is also great. London's Calling if you count foreign cities. But NY, NY, because it is all about the city, not just the backdrop of the song.

Surprisingly enough there's a song called "Hackensack"

Fountains of Wayne- Hackensack

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iYQ9EiXmV6k

also covered by Katy Perry (except she doesn't know how to correctly say Hackensack until the end)
