I like how Central Park is better integrated into the actual city.
But the National Malls monuments and history blow away Central Park. Martin Luther Kings "I have a dream", the emotional pull of the various memorials and sense of higher purpose is unlike anything in Central Park.
Wow.. Good question.. Me personally, I like Central Park, I think it's bigger, the monuments get old after a while, the way Central Park is integrated into central manhattan with the high rises surrounding the park is amazing.. Central Park wins by a hair..
Are you kidding me? Central Park because it’s the best and most famous park in the world.
By name, maybe. Visually, no since the National Mall plays host to the U.S. Capitol and the Washington Monument. These are more recognizable than anything in Central Park.
Among many things...I met one of my first girlfriends by the National Mall..learned city driving with my learners permit all over that area(very scary at 15..I saw my first public urination in front of a cop, talked with David Bryne (Talking Heads) singer on a park bench in Central Park.. I like them both, but going with Central Park..Spring time with the blossoms in DC..Autumn golden glow in Central Park..
The Mall can feel sort of desolate in sections, and as a park, much of it is extremely bland - I mean, it's just grass (or sometimes mud) interspersed with walkways and monuments. As a "park" it is solidly mediocre.
I think both parks have entirely different purposes and therefore the comparison is not quite even...
I think visually, the National Mall has no equal. It's history, grandeur, beauty and display of pride of accomplishment of a people make it a beautiful, valuable place that is truly a "must see" kind of place for Americans.
But for just a nice day out on a picnic, a place to get away from a "city feel", a place to see what New York is like--Central Park.

I don't really consider the National Mall to be an urbanpark.
Its not really a place I'd want to hang out just for the sake of hanging out. Also, its not very well connected to neighborhoods. Plus its more like the green space in the middle of a huge campus than an actual park.
Obviously its very interesting and its monuments are quite beautiful, but as a park? Not so much.
The National Mall = dead brown grass and gravel. Ugh.
