The southern is music to my ears, and I'm a born Yankee with a Southern heart

It depends which type of Northern accent. I think the Minnesota/Dakota/semi-Canadian accent is pleasant and fun But I am not a fan of the rough, shrill Boston accent.

Likewise for a Southern accent. Cajun is confusing. "Southern Belle" is very elegant in my opinion. And rural Appalachian, etc. is, well, I don't really want to offend anyone.

My favorite Southern accent has to be the GEICO pothole.

I'd LOVE to meet someone who sounds like Marissa Tomei (sadly she doesn't really sound like this!) in my Cousin Vinnie. Sadly I'm guessing this is getting rarer? I'm Australian and I don't get why the NY accent is so hated.

There really is no blanket accent for the south or north. Different areas have different accents.

The reason I quoted the above is because even rural Appalachian accents vary.

I'm a rural Appalachian from the north. I don't sound like a Tennessean. Heck, I don't even sound the same as Appalachian Ohioans! ;P

My speech patterns are similar. But certainly not accent. You see, there are many accents.

Though I assume the OP meant something like New York city/northeast Jersey accents versus central Mississippi and Alabama type accents. Between them? I honestly don't know. They are both comical at times, and both can be over-bearing as well.

Southern Accent. It's smooth and graceful when spoken by an educated, cultured Southern woman .

Northeastern accents are just.. what happens when you have so many people packed in together like sardines. It's really bad.

But that north-eastern accent you're thinking of is only spoken with in a small area.

The entire North-east has several accents.

It depends on the accent and voice.
