Sorry let me be a little bit more clear, my wife got job offers in both cities, doing coumpter manitenance in hospitals. We would like to live in the city, what city have the best night life, resturants, and urban neighborhoods.
Based on your criteria, I would have to say Milwaukee, hands down, has the better nightlife, better restaurants, and better urban neighborhoods. After Las Vegas, Milwaukee has the 2nd most bars and restaurants per capita in the US. Milwaukee is astoundingly diverse considering its size and location, and this is reflected in the city's dining scene. The City of Milwaukee is much larger than the City of Louisville and also has a much higher population density. Neighborhoods in Milwaukee are more urban and walkable than those in Louisville.

Don't listen to UC, this is just sour grapes from a previous battle with other Milwaukee poster who bashed his city and it got pretty ugly and now UC will never chose Milwaukee for anything ever again.

Based on this criteria I would vote Milwaukee. Now beware my view point is a little skewed b/c I am a huge fan of Milwaukee. Milwaukee is only a hour train ride to Chicago so that is a huge bonus as well. Milwaukee is not as dangerous as it once was and has very nice walkable neighborhoods and a lot of wealthy suburbs. Milwaukee is more dense than Lou and a very diverse city and not just black people either but people from eastern and south central Europe.

Look closely at what the OP asked.

Do you really think the quality of life in Milwaukee (for a family of 3) is better than Louisville? Do you really? Turn off your Milwaukee pride for a minute and just answer the OP's question honestly. I've picked against my own city plenty of times in order to help BEST ANSWER the OP's question.
I post on city data to help people who seek relocation info. If the OP wanted to know "Which city is better for a young single professional?" rest assured Milwaukee would have won EASILY! However, this is not the case and Milwaukee is a poor choice for a family (especially when Louisville is the other option). It is what it is.
