I always liked the boardwalk at Ocean City, Maryland. The ones in New Jersey are nice too.
Why do you think that the majority of the boardwalks are concentrated in the Mid-Atlantic region from New York to Virginia? I know they have some in California, Florida, and Texas, but they seem really abundant in the Mid-Atlantic.
New Jersey - hands down.
Keansburg is cute for kids
Asbury Park boardwalk is coming back -- slowly - it's a great nostalgia walk for me
Pt Pleasant
Seaside
Atlantic City
Wildwood
Ocean City
Spring Lake
Avon
Ocean Grove
Long Branch
Each place has something different to offer: from the quiet of Avon to the chaos of Wildwood. It all depends on what you want.
I've been to the left coast, and it's nice - and different. I tried Va Beach, Myrtle Beach, Miami Beach, Tampa and Clearwater. I live in NY and have been to Coney Island and the Rockaways - once to each (no reason to go back). When I want beach, I head to Jersey. We are moving to TN and I know I'll head back to NJ for the beach. There's just no place better -- for me.
Virginia Beach is only nice if you're deaf or have the kind of ear protectors used by the guys at airports. Man, those jets over the beach are non-stop and break the sound barrier. There's no chance to have a conversation whether on the beach or in a restaurant. (Oh, and I'm technically deaf without my hearing aids - which I did not wear when I visited Virginia Beach and still found it deafening.)
