Just see for yourself, if you can provide a legitimate source for your metropolitan statistics for Chicagoland and the Bay Area then I'll go with it, but for now I'm going to refute it.
Also, I've lived in Chicago majority of my life, I now go to school in Austin, I'm not just a Houston defender, but I defend Chicago more. lol
Those are for the Fortune Global 500 companies in the city area.
Why ask me to check when the Forbes list is obviously on the Forbes site? You could check your own link (except it makes more sense to use the 2009 version). You can do one of two things:
go through the Global 500 list under companies in the US and look at the headquarters of each individual company and see which metro it's in
you can go look at maps under global 500 headquarters and count the number of tabs for Greater Houston, the Bay Area, and Chicagoland. Make sure you zoom in a bit so you don't miss any overlapping tabs.

Honestly, I'd have to agree. Jobs in Medicine, energy, even most businesses are easier to get in Houston with pretty high pays too. It's very debatable, and it has a lot to do with the field of work you're in.
The port of Houston is one of the world busiest ports, as more trade and export keep going on its Houston. The Texas Medical Center nothing to be said. Financial and Energy sectors. Houston has more fortune 500 companies than Chi-town land but I love Chicago cant wait to visit. I want to see the everything.
I've never heard of Houston having a strong financial sector at all...what are their strengths?
