St Louis has a good downtown that continues to improve daily. More residential, dining, bars, grocery stores, and other amenities continue to be added.
Which Midwest city has the best downtown other than Chicago which is clearly on top? My vote goes to either Minneapolis or Indianapolis.
You're going to need to be much more specific with your question in order for the thread to go on. Which midwest city has the best downtown for WHAT, exactly? Best restaurant or night life? Best parks or green space? Best walkable layout? etc.
I liked Minneapolis a lot, as well as St. Louis and Milwaukee.
I was just in Minneapolis (downtown and many areas around it) a few weeks ago and I have to say I was underwhelmed. I must be missing the bigger picture, and it could well be I didn't find the "cool" parts of town -- I wasn't really looking for them because I wasn't there as a tourist. Still, there are cities I've been to where I immediately liked it the minute I rolled into town. I didn't get that from Minneapolis.
