But while we are on hiphop.....just consider the quality of lyrics coming from the artist today vs when ny was running it..with the exception of wayne(questionable)drake kanye lupe and maybe a few others no one is spitting..WACK
I didn't forget that it's about all kinds of music, someone started attacking NYC's status (mostly Hip-Hop) so that's why people got stuck on Hip-Hop. I was going to post about other types of music.
Oh I know. I was agreeing with. I should have made that more clear. I think New York is #1 in live music (and that's coming from a former Austinite).
It is really irrelevant where hip-hop, blues, rock, indie, etc. started because we're talking about who has the best live music scene. Even if hip-hop has gone down hill, New York still has people like Jay-Z, almost all the members of the Wu Tang Clan, Talib Kweli, and Mos Def who are based out of New York and are contently doing shows there.
Where else can you find Beyonce and Jay-Z show up at Grizzly Bear concert and rave about the band and indie music after the show?
I think you can make a case for Austin, but my vote is still for NYC. No offense Atlanta, the city has a great live music scene, but I don't think you can find anything in Atlanta that can't be beat by New York. The only thing I can think of is country music.
Which is the best US city for indie/alternative music?? I know most of the cities will have a healthy and diverse music scene going on, but I'm looking to move to a city with at least 10 indie/alternative/rock venues... Can anyone suggest a city for me please????
1.) Atlanta right now if you like hip-hop and R&B. I am "all the way turnt up" on that. Nobody's touching the A right now.
2.) New Orleans (Weezy baby)
3.) Miami
4.) New York (making a come back)
5.) Chi
6.) LA

Ummm... Hip-hip and R&B. and your right maybe country. New York does not have half the artist in Hip-hop that ATL has right now. New york has one great artist, Jay-z, that they always talk about JAy-z. Its not even a question. ATL has dominated hip-hop and R&B for the past decade. Where is the props? And half those guys live there. All my friends from around the states love to come to atlanta for hip hop clubs. Theres always artist there. Just listen to the radio and youll find that there is always a major act going on at least every weekend like clockwork. THen the culture there is so strong. Aparently you haven't spent much time at the AUC. New York doesn't even have anything like that.

Yeah, well quality over quantity. Most of the hip hop and r&b that has come out of Atlanta the past decade has been pretty much garbage. Not talking about TI, or the dungeon family, or even Luda. I'm talking about the one hit disposable crap from the Shop Boyz, Ying Yang Twins, the Alliance. Not to mention that they have the embarrassment that is Gucci Mane and OJ da Juiceman. I don't know if you can call that trash, hip hop.
R&B was great in Atlanta in the 90s. This decade? Not so much. Sorry, Ciara is a dancer but she can't sing. The Dream? Tell him to stick to being a writer. As far as the hip hop clubs and others, well you can find that in every city. There's also artists in DC every weekend. As well as Chicago, Miami, Houston, Los Angeles, and so on and so on.
I'm not trying to hate on Atlanta. But I look at quality over quantity. Just because you have the most doesn't make you the best. New York is STILL the king of hip hop.
