I'll bet it has had that effect on lots of people around the world.
The end scene of the movie Talk Radio similarly has great aerial shots of Downtown Dallas at night. It always imparts similar feelings in me to the opening of Dallas.
For San Francisco, I'd say the opening of The Streets of San Francisco is somewhat similar, but not as impactful as that of the Dallas opening.
But what will always get me for San Francisco is the view of the skyline with the Bay Bridge in the foreground. I've always liked the Bay Bridge better than the Golden Gate Bridge. There's just something about the seemingly endless loops and the multiple towers and the x's on those towers that I've always been drawn to. Of course the Golden Gate Bridge is incredible, romantic and beautiful, but the Bay Bridge to me is just fantastic and very impressive.
The iconic image with the San Francisco skyline and the Bay Bridge is the reason why I voted for the San Francisco skyline over Dallas', even though the Dallas skyline alone was enough to actually make me want to move to Dallas, but even with that I think the skyline of San Francisco as pictured here is better:

God, doesn't that just look magical? It's like you're being invited by the bridge to the incredible city at its end. And the way the bridge seems to go on and on and dance across the water. I just love it!
