For the Bay Area I am going to have to go with highway 80 (better known as the Bay Bridge). When this bad boy closes it's throws the whole Bay Area into crisis mode. It carries close to 300,000 cars a day.
This what the Toll plaza looks like every morning.
Illinois' would have to be the 4 expressways that draw into the circle interchange in downtown Chicago.
The Kennedy has 300,000 vehicles per day coming in from the north, the Eisenhower has 210,000 coming in from the west, the Stevenson has 200,000 coming in from the southwest, and the Dan Ryan has 230,000 coming in from the south.
The impressive factor is that these expressways are only 4 lanes in each direction except for the Dan Ryan which is 7 lanes in each direction. The Kennedy also has 2 reversible lanes that switch depending on traffic. The end result though is congestion at most hours of the day. 36 lanes total for 940,000 vehicles coming or going.
Here's a couple pics of the 4 main expressways with 200-300K cars per day. I put in a picture of the intersection where they meet as well.
I dont care what ya'll say... There is no traffic as horrible as la traffic...
The 10 freeway is jacked up!!! Construction has been working on it since may 08!!! It's a terror to drive in the morning, rush hour ...
Notice in the beginning of the laker games at staple center there are some empty seats...thats because they're stuck on the 10 freeway...

The Bay Bridge is one of the most important and vital roadways in California.
I'd say I-75 for the State of Georgia overall, but I-85 in Gwinnett County is possibly the most heavily trafficked in the Atlanta area.
The Downtown Connector where 75 and 85 join through DT Atlanta can see as many as 323,000 cars per day.
With the "top end" of I-285 (the part between 75 and 85 in the northern part of the metro) not far behind.
After seeing those pictures from Brazil, I'll never complain about Atlanta traffic again
