Here's 2007 again for comparison's sake
(Non Hispanic) White Population, 2007
New York 11,833,581...53% of total population
Los Angeles 6,270,784...35% of total population
Boston 6,010,426...80% of total population
Chicago 5,540,307...56% of total population
Washington DC 4,621,574...56% of total population
Philadelphia 4,352,021...68% of total population
Detroit 3,792,716...70% of total population
Dallas 3,517,567...54% of total population
San Francisco 3,342,077...46% of total population
Atlanta 3,066,245...54% of total population
Houston 2,474,677...43% of total population
Miami 2,065,413...38% of total population

Dallas had a drop of 4% in white population. Houston only had a drop of .04%. However, given that now the population trends are virtually the same now I can see why. DFW used to be the place all the white people went to and Houston has always been where the immigrants have flooded to. However now DFW has joined Houston as the place where the immigrants flood to and Houston is still the way it was. DFW's white population is very slow growing now (almost stagnant).

Dallas (DFW) is the only metro area on the chart that had a significant drop in its white percentages. Since this data is now over a year old, Im sure the white percentage is now below 50% there.

Ive posted this before, but below is some projected data from 2007. It seems to be off since DFW's hispanic percentage is now almost what it was projected to be at in 2012. Either way, 80% of DFW's growth is coming from Latin America.

DFW Metropolitan Area Demographics
Something seems funny about the way that was calculated, and your link confirms it.

2007 TOTAL: 6.504,749 (margin of error +/- 0.1%)
Dallas 3,517,567...54% of total population (100 = 1.85)

2008 TOTAL: 7,031,211 (margin of error +/- 0.1%)
Dallas-Ft Worth, TX 50.5%...3,551,117 (100 = 1.98)

In order for DFW to be only 50.5% white AND still gain 40,000 white people, roughly 487,000 non-white hispanics would have to come live in DFW within a year. That's a growth rate of 8.1% in one year! Something tells me there was a typo within 18Montclair's stats (probably not his fault), rather than superhuman.

The point is, DFW is still an extremely racially diverse area. What's even of greater interest is that the type of transplanted American moving to the region is changing! This means within no time, most of our cities will be the proverbial melting pot. Guess we're that much closer to being a mongrel nation, no?

Thanks to Lifeshadower! Amazing data.

This now begs the question given this criteria which I'll agree is imperfect but as good as any;
is the San Francisco Bay Area the most diverse metro/region in the whole WORLD?

Ask 18Montclair. He supposedly spends a great deal of time in São Paolo, and that's the only city I think could be more diverse than cities in the US.

I wouldn't necessarily say the Bay is the most diverse metro in the US, considering it's only separated from Houston, Miami, and LA by 0.01%. Not to mention that neither the Bay or LA comes close to the national average in terms of African Americans, who make up the third largest ethnic group in the US. Going by that, Houston is the most representative of the nation as a whole.

Cities like Toronto and London are very diverse too...I've heard Toronto is the most diverse city on the planet.

Toronto

49.9% of the population is foreign-born, with 46.9% residents of city are of a visible minority group. 911 in Toronto is equipped to respond in over 150 different languages...wow!

Pie chart of visible minority population.

London has almost 70% white population...but over 300 different languages are spoken within its borders.

^^^I agree.

I would nominate Toronto, London, and Sydney as the most diverse in the world.

There are over 150 languages in Houston as well.

"Over 150 languages are spoken in the homes of HISD and over 30% of the Houston population speaks a language other than English in the home. About half a million residents of Houston speak little or no English, and the top languages spoken are Spanish, Vietnamese, Mandarin Chinese, French, and Urdu."

This all goes back to how you personally define Diversity. Is it languages spoken, nationalities, foreign born population or visible minority population?

As someone who grew up in Toronto I can attest to TO being extremely diverse, with that being said even though Toronto has a larger visible minority population than London, in my opinion London is the more diverse city because there are more nationalities represented (with over 10k population) and almost double the languages spoken.

What? Any time anyone mentions diversity those two cities are always out there immediately screaming about their diversity.

That's 150 languages that the emergency service, 911 is able to respond in. Not just the number of languages spoken in the city.

That's overstating it. From my perspective, the majority of the time posters from both cities/metros are speaking about the diversity in response to idiotic claims that they are NOT that diverse. Then the reactions provoke a lot of proof of just how diverse they both are. You can't blame us for taking issue with being told we're not something that we definitely are.

Its like if people tried to say that Chicago's skyline was smaller than LA's. How silent do you think the Chicago posters would be? With the gargantuan chips you guys have on your shoulders I would hate to see how terrible that would turn out.
