Yes it is an unfortunate truth. Off the top of my head, I could probably name about 20 or so cities in Mexico with higher murder per capita rates than New Orleans. In fact there are 4 or 5 whole states with higher per capita rates than New Orleans.

that usually happens as the summer time comes. but the 27 percent is a huge drop so it might take a while to catch up

There are no states with higher per capita murder rates than New Orleans.
New Orleans average per capita murder rate from 1990-2009 (20 yrs.) of 59 per 100,000 leads all major cities in America and Louisiana has led all states in per capita murder rate for 21 consecutive years (1989-2009).
Juarez has been insane, but only since the beginning of 2008 and only had around 300 murders in 2007.

I didn't say any U.S. states were higher in per capita than New Orleans. If you read the whole thread I had posted, I meant it in the context of Mexican states.

And, when I created the topic of this thread, it was for currents stats for this year (2010).

I wonder if Canada has the same attitude towards our cities for crime as we do towards Mexico.

Montreal, Canada with 1.9 million people has had only 12 murders this year.
Toronto with 2.5 million people has only had 16 (by comparison, Chicago has had 140+).
Edmonton with 730,000 people has had only 5 homicides.

Canada probably looks at us and goes "Crap, 340 murders in Detroit!!!" and we likewise are going "Crap, 1,500 murders in Ciudad Juarez!!!"

And they probably look at Central America or Cuba and go like "crap 2,000 murders!" and they look at Venezuela and go like "Crap 2,500 murders!"

Just kidding, but it would be pretty funny if that is whats been happening.
