Just saying "it's flat" doesn't say much. I gave details and reasons why Florida is fun and exciting, but you and your daughter only say "it's flat" (so is Long Island, by the way, so I'm not sure how much I believe that one) and you don't like it. It's just your own prejudices, really.
The highest point in the entire state of Florida is 345 feet. The highest point on just Long Island is 275 feet (central and north shore). The highest point in the entire state of New York is 5,344 feet.

If you like to hike, or snow ski, or a cabin in the mountains, it won't happen in the entire state of Florida. Maybe you cannot do this on LI, but you won't have to leave the entire state of New York do it.

And if you like year-round snorkeling in warm, caribbean waters it won't happen in the entire state of NY.

As I said, it's personal preference that prompts you and your daughter to prefer NY, but it's the prejudice you both have that prompts you to bash Florida and say things which aren't true, like "it's not exciting because it's flat".

It IS flat in comparison to NYS, Pa., Vt., even NEW JERSEY. Yes, it IS personal preference. When you can count on one hand the number of times you have been to a beach living on an island (even with just "SUMMER" weather) for 20 years, then living in a state where warm weather year round and beaches is not going to be the place for you.

As many people say, VACATIONING in a place and LIVING there year round are two totally different things.

You have obviously never been to the Panhandle of Florida. Hills, caves, beautiful State Parks, hiking trails, lush rivers. Add in the most drop-dead gorgeous beaches you've ever laid eyes on, and it might as well be a different State than you are used to.
