Which state capital city in USA is the most important to national and maybe even international eyes. Oh and this does include the cities that are still growing, and if they can possibly be the most important state capital city in the country... so future statuses do count.
No DC is not an option, that's not a state capital.
Here are some examples;
Phoenix
Boston
Denver
Oklahoma City
Indianapolis
Austin
Sacramento
Columbus
Atlanta
... AND any other state capital you can think of in the USA.
^^ One of those cities listed above is largest state capital by population and 5th largest city.
Another one of them have an immense amount of history.
Sacramento is easily the most powerful state capital. California's government is the largest and most active in the nation. Lots of spending/regulations, plus Calpers/Calsters are very powerful institutional investors. It is probably the only state goverment that has influence on an international basis.
That being said, overall I would have to go with Boston. It is a far bigger MSA and is strong in lots of areas: edu,health, finance, etc.
