San Jose also has better downtown than Vacouver's since Dt. Vancouver is mostly a bedroom community with really rotten core of Downtown Eastside. San jose's is more balanced with office and housing with no slummy area.
The entire city of San Jose has approx. 24 million square feet of office space. Downtown Vancouver alone has approx. 24 million square feet of office space. Fairview/Broadway corridor (which could be considered part of "Greater Downtown Vancouver") has another 6 million or so square feet.
San Jose does not have a better residential/office mix downtown. It has less of both. And it probably has about 1/10th the amount of retail as downtown Vancouver.

LOL. One can fly from Vancouver nonstop to about 2-3 dozen different overseas cities. How many overseas cities can one fly to nonstop from San Jose. Not San Francisco, San Jose.

exactly why it seems like you loaded the questions in Vancouver's favor. Most overseas non-stop flights? pffffttttt. I have no idea why 18Montclair said SJ for that, but I have even less of a clue why you would list is amongst much more general categories.
Anyways, for me, it is Vancouver hands down. For outdoor recreational activities it is the best city in the wooooooorld. SJs only advantage IMO is more access to other cities, notably SF.

Dont be jealous because you only have 1 international airport in your metropolitan area. Especially since it was you who posed this ludicrous question in the first place.
San Francisco International Airport is only 18 miles from Santa Clara County which makes it local.

He did the same thing in an incredibly lopsided Vancouver vs Jacksonville thread asking criteria that only favored Vancouver.
Except in this case, San Jose itself has shopping that is at least on par with Vancouver, Culture that is at least on par with Vancouver, outdoor recreation that is at least on par with Vancouver.
Racial and ethnic diversity that probably exceeds Vancouver, a climate that is far more desirable than Vancouver, levels of affluence and educational attainment that exceeds Vancouver, and corporate prominence that far surpasses Vancouver, which by comparison, is not a city of major companies but a place of satellite locations while San Jose is a HQ city.
Furthermore, the San Jose Area has fewer homicides than the Vancouver Area: Homicides 2009
Metro San Jose 46
Metro Vancouver 76

a. It was Vancouver vs. San Jose, not Vancouver vs. San Jose + Oakland + San Francisco
b. Even if you include San Fran, one can still probably fly nonstop to more overseas cities from Vancouver. And one can certainly fly nonstop from Vancouver to more American cities than San Fran flying nonstop to Canadian cities.

Vancouver is more than 40% foreign born. The suburb of Richmond is around 60%.

Vancouver has a moderate, comfortable, year-round climate. San Jose swelters in 84F highs in the summer.

2010 a calmer year for homicides in Metro Vancouver (http://www.vancouversun.com/news/2010+calmer+year+homicides+Metro+Vancouver/4025122/story.html - broken link)
ROFLOL! I followed your link, and it said that Metro Vancouver only had 40 murders in 2010. Yet for some reason you chose to use the 2009 numbers, even though the 2010 numbers are readily available. Gee, I wonder why.

Maybe because the San Jose source only went up to 2009? Maybe that's why. And even at 40 murders, Vancouver still would have nearly double the murder rate as San Jose and quadruple in 2009.
And who actually cares about in which airport you can fly non-stop? You obviously only picked this criteria for the purpose of making Vancouver look good.
And did you just put "sweltering" and "84F" in the same sentence? ROFL try moving to Las Vegas and then tell us about "sweltering".
This is an interesting pie-chart in that it certainly highlights Vancouver's asian diversity while only grouping african americans and africans (dozens of different nationalities) as "black" and latin americans (dozens of different nationalities) as "latin american"
Did you seriously just try to say that Vancouver is more diverse than San Jose? This whole thread merits an SMH.
