That's how Minnesotans feel about the Vikes, and the Vikes actually have promise and STILL lose, and lose in the worst way! Sorry, but I don't think Detroit has it that bad, but it's all relative of course.
1. Detroit (How, Redwings always do well, the Pistons just had a string of success, and the Tigers were just in the WS)
2. Cleveland (You might be onto something here)
3. Houston (1994 and 1995 NBA Championship means nothing?)
4. Seattle (Sonics Vs Bulls, NBA Championship, 1996?)
5. San Diego (World Series appearance in 1998?)
6. San Fransisco/Oakland (49ers won Superbowls in the 1990s and Raiders went to a Super Bowl in 02'?)
7. Charlotte (Is this even a big market team to be considered?)
8. Washington DC (You might be onto something here)
9. Milwaukee (I guess you're onto something too, but for GB Packers, they were successful in the 1990s)
10. Minneapolis (this is my candidate)
Most of the cities you listed don't have 4 Professional teams:
Detroit does - Wings, Tigers, Lions, Pistons
Cleveland doesn't (3)
Houston doesn't (3)
Seattle doesn't (2)
San Diego doesn't (2)
San Fran/Oakland does but they are 2 different cities
Charlotte (2 or 3 teams?) The Hurricanes just won a stanley cup, i know they are Raleigh though
DC (4)
MKE (2)
Minneapolis-St. Paul have 4 Pro teams and 1 Big Ten School
0 championships in 20 years!
Since the 1991 World Series Win, that's 20 Twins seasons, 20 Timberwolves seasons, 20 NCAAB and 20 NCAAF seasons, and 10 Wild Seasons, not to mention 2 North Star Seasons
Thats a combined 92 Seasons without even a Championship appearance.
Take into effect Darren Nelson's drop in the End Zone in the 1988 NFC Championship game, Gary Anderson's missed FG in 1998 NFC CHampionship, Favre's INT and Tahi's 12th man in the huddle BS, the Twins' postseason blunders, and the Choking of the T'Wolves agains the Lakers in the 2004 Western Conference Finals and the WIlds' choke in the Western Finals that year too.
The Padres did not win in its 1998 World Series appearance, nor in its 1984 one. They're 1-8 in WS games.
San Diego really could contend for this dubious title. Beyond the Padres, there's the Chargers who seem to always be in contention and to always find a way to blow it. Some great players and coaches have gone through there without winning a title. The city also lost an NBA team - twice. Both the Rockets and Clippers once played there, and no, there were no championships in hoops.
