What are the pros and cons of living in each of these areas and which one do you prefer overall?

I like NYC city wise, but I like Buffalo because of it's proximity to Canada and Niagara Falls.

NYC:
- Economy
- Food
- Shopping
- Cultural Amenities
- Variety (In almost everything)
Need I go on?

It's hard to compare, because Upstate NY is a bigger area versus NYC and is a mix of urban, small town, suburbia and rural environments. So, it depends on what you are looking for.

NYC is my favorite city, but upstate NY has always been the place I wanted to escape to and live.

What I like about upstate, is that i feel that there is more to explore and discover. In NYC, I expect the unexpected, in upstate NYC, I don't quite as much. Mind you, I'm also slightly biased against cities.

Upstate New York is like the perfect place to escape from New York City. With that being said though I voted for New York City my favorite place in the world .

How plausible is it to make weekend trips to NYC from upstate New York?

Hop on the Metro North from Grand Central Terminal, or just go north out of the city. Upstate N.Y. is everything on the mainland that isn't N.Y.C.
