It appears TMC is geared towards patient care that incorporates research, whereas Longwood is research based first. Am I wrong? Then it would make sense why Boston has more NIH funding.

Longwood is patient care first, research second. The thing is that the hospitals also focus and are committed to research in Boston as well, it isn't only the Med Schools that are conducting it.

The Boston Medical community as a whole has the perfect balance of research/patient care:

For example Mass General Hospital (which is not in Longwood btw) is the number one recipient in the nation for NIH funding, but it is also ranked in the Top 10 for every specialty patient care category (US NEWS) except Ear, Nose and Throat (and that is because there is a joint program with Mass Eye and Ear which ranks Number 5 in the nation) So patient care is hardly suffering due to a strong commitment to research.

I see. That is truly amazing. It is not too often you get that blend of research and patient focus.

It's certainly older than Houston's. I know, I know, it's yet another plus about Boston that upsets you.

Active, certianly-all that oil has to come from somewhere. I'm aware other cargo is trafficked in, but let's be honest.

Prominent, that's debatable. Boston benefits for being the nearest US city to Europe. It is an integral part of the urban landscape. Boston is a coastal city afterall. Not to mention, the history of the American Revolution is the history of Boston Harbor. Tea anyone?

The keywords are "history"; lets try stepping into the 21st century.
