my mom fries plantains, makes tacos, makes crazy italian dishes, we eat beef patties, she LOVES knishes, etc. etc.
my mom makes all types of caribbean food. empanadas? yup.
southerners are not making the type of food we're talking about.
a lot of them haven't even heard of it. i remember the first time my gf (from the south) had a beef pattie. she was scared to eat it.

and she can cook her butt off. never had a female in my life cooking for me the way she does. she can do the seafood stuff but international stuff like what we're talking about? na.

yeah. for example, my older sister's empanadas are out of this world good, and we don't have a drop of spanish in our blood lol (not that i know of anyway). and a lot of southern blacks have west indian heritage, so finding someone who can make things like ox tails and jerk chicken isn't unusual
as far as italian goes, i don't know anybody personally who can make genuine italian dishes, but i would guess that about 1 out of every 4 or 5 black households has a cook that can make a meeean lasagna lol. or spaghetti (my favorite dish) with the sausages and the sweet ragu. or maybe some angel hair pasta with the butter alfredo sauce....throw some skrimps in there lol. good eatin

It's funny how you assume women in the south are the "baddest" because they can supposedly cook different dishes. I guess the rest in the country can't cook other types of dishes

So you think people make pizza and bagels just as well in Texas? No, there are plenty of NYers here in south Florida who try to make them, and it just doesn't taste the same. Just like how you say the mexican/bbq isn't as good in NY, same goes for pizza and bagels down there.
Coming from a black family, my mother didnt just cook soul food. My mother cooked spanish dishes, italian dishes etc.Thats some ny sh>t. Southerners dont do that.
And you know this how? I am also black; however, my mother made (and still makes often) Korean, Chinese, Italian, and Carribean dishes. So again, your point is mute!

we're supposed to believe that southern females are cooking the same types of foods that females are in a city like ny, in a city that is more diverse than anything in this region, the region below us, the region to the side of that, etc.
in a city where our MANY cultures go hand in hand with each other and where ppl rub off on each other, where cultures mold into one.
we're supposed to believe that exceptions to the rule are now the norm.

my half bajan half turkish, 1/3 of a quarter dutch slash cambodian japanese sudanese grandmother baked cookies from recipes known only by the monks in tibet on the east side of the grey rocks too!! thats how we do in the atl!! all of the south is like that too!
my wife's neighbor's husband's wife from little haiti is black scotch irish italian Brazilian and makes knishes all the time! miami is just like atl and nyc!
