Cleveland is a gritty city with a lot of history, and for some reason our leaders seem determined to tear down our history for parking lots and to try and market our city as this high tech mecca instead of marketing it as what it actually is - a place with a lot of culture. And they rip off taxpayers trying to do this (again, Medical Mart). There aren't many cities in the U.S. that have professional sports teams, museums, an orchestra AND a rail system (I'm talking about Seattle, Austin, etc. - they don't have all these things, but they've learned how to market themselves properly). We also do have pretty crappy taxes compared to other major cities.
Disagree on just about all that. Nothing you mentioned is unique to Cleveland.
Brain drain? I don't think your average citizen, or even your above average citizen is thinking or is even aware of what effect this may be having on CLE.
Likewise 2/3rds of County residents don't live in Cleveland. Most don't even know what the crime rate is in Cleveland (nor is it even that high to begin with). Most only get their "crime news" from the local stations and if you only got the news from there, you would have zero idea of the true crime going on in CLE.
Racial Tension? In Cleveland? I don't even know what you're talking about there,
Bad weather? It is STILL snowing in Colorado. Over 300 snowfall records were broken in the USA this April (not one in CLE, by the way). Those people must really be pessimistic. Are you really that oblivious to how many places have similar and even MUCH worse weather?
Bad political choices? While I agree the citizens here have made some bad choices... I couldn't believe some of these clowns got re-elected... do you really think this is unique to Cleveland? This is happening everywhere. The only difference is people got caught here.

I think midwesterners in general are just a bit of a pessimistic lot.

You should read what I said again carefully my friend. I moved here in the month of January and tried to go around the local bars and restaurants here trying to make friends with people I have met, however it just seemed like it was pointless because most people here aren't transplants but locals and they would rather hang out with people they went to school with rather than strangers that they just met. I don't blame them, it's just that people here are mostly those that lived and grew up here and they don't really know how it feels to be a transplant from some other city, that's what I dislike the most about Cleveland.

Hiking in the winters where there aren't any high mountains? Are you serious? I lived here in the winters and rarely found a soul that got out in the winters, most places I have been to in the winters were empty and deserted. It's easy to pass the blame onto me that I haven't been able to find anything to do in the winters, however it takes a truly understanding and mature person to validate what's there and what's not in their city, I guess that's too much to ask from someone around here.

Both are really not that far away, and offer great scenery and an escape from urban life. Also, if you want just great scenery, minus the camping, take a drive through Geauga County, and check out Amish Country.

In terms of things to do, you have to look for it a little bit in Cleveland, it's not right at your front door, but it's always there. Pick up a copy of Scene Magazine and see all the things our city has to offer. I guarantee you'll be surprised and not disappointed.
Thanks for the suggestions, I appreciate it. However, nothing here compares to the outstanding scenery in North Carolina i.e., the Blue Ridge Parkway, Smoky Mountains, Blowing rock etc. I guess I just have to be satisfied with what I find though, and I wouldn't mind it for the while. Thanks for your suggestions.

You just lost any credibility you might have had. It's this kind of talk that drives me nuts.

Let's look at just 2012. It got warm early in March. And Stayed warm through to September. Was warm and mild much of Oct. That's 8 months of NICE weather.

This year has been a little on the other side, colder then normal. But you can surely count on May-Oct being pretty nice. September and October are often forgotten but are really special times of the year here.
I don't know man, it's almost the first week of May and it's still quite cold outside. I am not used to living in a place where you wear a jacket 8 months of the year, sorry for disappointing you I will try to get used to this.

You've got to be kidding. Seriously??? It was 72 degrees today. Sunny. Still quite cold?? You people are unbelievable. Just unbelievable. I don't know what to tell you. Some of the softest people in the world write on these boards. Wow.

If clubbing is your thing, well, then 6th Street is about it.

For outdoor recreation you should take advanage of Lake Erie. For Hiking there are Metro Parks nearby, and the Allegany forest in NY/PA is not that far of a drive if you want to see some mountains.
Nothing compares to the Blue Ridge Parkway, the Smoky Mountains or one of those scenic outdoors that NC has to offer no matter what you say, however I don't blame that on Cleveland. Each place is different, you would be surprised how good a nightlife Charlotte has, I agree it's small but it's very hip and happening and much more so than Cleveland, a lot of people in Cleveland themselves agreed to this. I don't like W 6th St sorry I find it rather amusing that people here think it's a great place to begin with, I guess to each his own.

You need mountains to go hiking?? I hear Cleveland's got a national park nearby. Who cares if you see crowds out there in winter, I thought we were talking about winter activities for you? Find some friends and go.

I'm not from Cleveland, but I'm more than familiar with winter. The bottom line is people make it worse than it has to be. There is plenty going on in winter, both indoors and outdoors. It's lame to sit there and act like you have to be stuck inside from December-February. You don't, and it just takes a change in attitude.

I agree today was great outside, not denying it. However it's one of the first days of this year I found the weather this mild, don't tell me this is common in the months of Jan, Feb and March atleast I haven't found it this year.

Yeah, looks like a pretty perfect week in Ohio coming up... well, if you like sunshine and warm temperatures.
