One idea is that if dealing with non intellectuals is so troublesome , simply remove yourself from that environment. Don't associate with them. Problem solved.

LOL ! I almost spilled my drink reading this ! Being from NYC I say this ;

DUDE visit New York some time and research the cost of living vs. what you have in Cleveland !
Maybe it's not as big or worldly but when you see the bang you get for your buck you may be glad u r where u r !
Bigger place to live , not as crowded , next to artists in Collingwood ? Try making friends with them , I'm sure some of them are from the very same cities you dream of .
Count your blessings and keep up the good fight .

Oh, BTW we have MORE than our share of ignorant A $ $ blue AND white collar jerks here !

What I pay to rent my tiny apartment with a closet kitchen and no living room in an average Boston neighborhood, you could rent an entire house with a backyard, porch, and in a place like North Collinwood. If you include my roommates' part of the rent, you could have a nice apartment downtown to yourself.

Judging from my experience, some of the overly "cultural" and "intellectual" people are also some of the biggest d-bags. Be careful what you wish for.
